The presenters have developed a toolkit, the Viewfinder toolkit, to help libraries and archives implement AI in alignment with professional values. This hands-on session introduces the toolkit and guides participants through its use.

AI hype is everywhere! Libraries and archives want to use AI to improve our resources and services, while protecting our communities from harm. We developed the Viewfinder toolkit to help practitioners implement AI in alignment with professional values. This hands-on session introduces the toolkit and guides participants through its use.

 

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the webinar, attendees will be able to:

 

  • Recognize the landscape of AI implementation in libraries and archives
  • Examine and reflect upon the values and stakeholders at play in AI implementations.
  • Evaluate actions to guide responsible AI implementation.

Presenters:
 

Sara Mannheimer, Data Librarian sara.mannheimer@montana.edu Sara Mannheimer is a Data Librarian and Associate Professor at Montana State University, where she helps shape theory and practice for data curation, data sharing, and data discovery. Her research examines the social, ethical, and technical issues of a data-driven world.

Scott W. H. Young is a User Experience Librarian and Professor at Montana State University. In his practice, he applies a set of design methods—user-centered design, service design, participatory design, and content strategy—to improve library services. As a researcher, he examines library UX and assessment from three perspectives: user participation, practitioner self-reflection, and professional ethics.
